Durga Puja 2007

Home » Durga Puja 2007

Come October 2007 and the heart of every Bengali gleams with joy and happiness. And why shouldn’t it gleam? After all it’s Durga Puja, the largest festival of Bengali Community. This Durga Puja 2007 will be glorified with the everlasting spirit of joy and victory. Maa Durga riding her Lion carrier (Singho Vahan) is out to destroy all the demons and establish the supremacy of Good over Evil. The battle between Devi Durga and Mahishasur, fought zillions of years ago, still enchants the heart of every Bengali. This rich and vibrating epical mythology (or is it history?) is celebrated every year with tremendous ardor and fervor.

Each element and aspect of Maa Durga will add to the passion of Durga Puja 2007. The larger than life Tents (Pandals), Maa Durga and her children’s Idol (Murtis), the fragrance of Incense and sacred fire (Dhup and Dhuni) – everything together creates a beautiful aura of festivity and jubilation. Also known as Sharodiya Utsav, this festival is held during the autumn season, i.e., Ashwin month according to Indian calendar [sometimes shifts to Kartik month also]. This year the auspicious festival begins on 17th October (Mahalaya) and ends on 21st October (Vijay Dashami). The auspicious dates of this year are:

Shasthi17th October 2007, Wednesday
Maha Saptami18th October 2007, Thursday
Maha Ashtami19th October 2007, Friday
